Sendha Namak, also known as rock salt or Himalayan pink salt, is a type of salt derived from salt mines and natural salt deposits. It is minimally processed, retaining a pink hue due to the presence of trace minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Commonly used in Indian cuisine, especially during fasting periods, Sendha Namak is valued for its purported digestive and detoxifying properties. It is often used as a seasoning, in Ayurvedic medicine, and in spa treatments. Unlike regular table salt, it doesn't contain added iodine or anti-caking agents, making it a natural alternative.
